BV West Spotlight Online : Performing Arts Showcase

People were rustling in their seats waiting for the annual BV West Performing Arts Showcase to begin. It is a night of music from band, orchestra, and choir; it is also a night of laughs from the debate, and improv troupe. Mr. Brutto came out and announced that the band would start. Along with the band, was the dance team who waved flags and danced all among the Performing Arts Center, with their carefully planned choreography.

?It all started 11 years ago,? said Laurie Vanderpol, the drama teacher at West, ?The Showcase started outside, with people grilling for the guests. Grilling for 500 people was really difficult and messy. We would stay till ten o?clock cleaning up the grills and outside. The knew performing arts teachers wanted to do it inside.?

After the band and the dance team, debate took the stage with a game called Who Would Win in a Fight. The category was Animals and with audience participation they had the Sloth vs. Chimpanzees. After a short debate the audience decided that the sloths won. Then Chamber Choir performed Moon River and Build me up Buttercup. Next all of choir came up on stage and sang America the Beautiful and Everyday People.

?This is my fourth year directing the choir at West. My favorite song the choir that was preformed for the Performing Arts Showcase was Will You be There by Michael Jackson.

Right after choir came out the improv troupe and they played three games. The first game was called Late To Work, and then they played News Team, and then Sit Stand Bend. When the games were done the Orchestra played, then the Red and Silver Brigade finished up by playing the Alma Mater and Fight Song.
